Meet East Valley Authors’ Member, Author Libby Waterford

Former East Valley Authors’ Vice President, Communications, joins us today to talk about EVA.

Why I joined

I joined East Valley Authors in 2012, right after I made a pledge to myself to buckle down and get published, already. I remember my first EVA meeting well—I was pregnant with my first child, had never attended an RWA chapter meeting before, and the women I met were the warmest, most welcoming group of writers.

Though my spirit was willing when it came to romance writing, I soon learned my craft was weak. EVA’s monthly meeting topics helped jump-start my education. My path to publication was heavily influenced by my participation in RWA, EVA, and the California Dreamin’ Writers Conference. I pitched for the first time, and eventually sold my first book based on that pitch at the very first California Dreamin’ conference in 2013. Through EVA I’ve found beta readers, critique partners, and lifelong friends. My two sons have grown up with a whole gaggle of satellite aunts.

I’ve since moved across the country, so I don’t get to see the Evettes every month, but the wonders of social media keep us connected. My love for the group can withstand thousands of miles of distance. I’m a former EVA board member and strongly urge all EVA members to volunteer—it’s the best way to give back. You get much more than you give in terms of relationship building, networking, and satisfaction in a well-run chapter. Thanks to EVA, I presented a workshop on newsletter marketing at the 2017 California Dreamin’ conference.

I treasure my EVA milestones, and always look forward to hearing about my fellow members’ accomplishments. We’re a small chapter, but a strong one. If you live in SoCal, what are you waiting for? Join EVA today!
