December Meeting

Join us this Saturday, for the East Valley Authors monthly meeting. This month, EVA is proud to welcome Debbie Decker as she presents HOOKS: Who, What, When, Where and Why the hell should we care?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The elusive hook. It seems a simple thing, something we all recognize when we read it and try to implement in our own writing. But what is a hook?
A hook should be there from the start. It should tease your reader and make them want to turn that first page and continue on. In fact, the first 2 pages of the book are the most important to snare your reader. But hooks also need to be threaded throughout the book, at the end of the paragraph to keep readers wanting more, at the end of the chapter to keep them up all night. Even the last page of the book has a job to do — it has to hook the readers into buying your next book.
Come learn all the secrets of writing hooks and making them work for your story. By the end of the hour you should be ready to enter the 2017 California Hooker Contest!
November Meeting
Join us this Saturday, for the East Valley Authors monthly meeting. This month, EVA is proud to welcome Sarah Vance-Tompkins
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a romance author in possession of a book or manuscript for sale must be in want of social media followers. Let’s face it, Facebook has become resistant to growing new followers organically. There couldn’t be a better time to become more savvy about growing your following on Twitter, Instagram, and yes, it’s even time to explore the hot spot where all the cool kids are hanging out, Snapchat. An interactive exercise to help you find new readers, book reviewers, book bloggers, and other authors in your community, this workshop will be a fun learning experience for all levels of social media mavens. Beginners and experts will be welcomed and encouraged.
Sarah Vance-Tompkins (@SarahVTompkins) has been a social media manager for Radio, Records, KFI-AM/Los Angeles, CALarts, and Wet Personal Lubricants. She has also worked as a strategist for authors and small businesses. After earning an MFA in Film Production from the University of Southern California, she worked at Paramount Pictures in feature film development. She is a member of the Los Angeles Romance Authors, OCC-RWA, YARWA and CRW-Online. She welcomes your questions and comments. sarahevance@gmail.com.
